ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Twelve local community organizations will benefit from a $1 million grant, announced Sen. Jeremy Cooney. The “Reinvesting in Organizations That Care” grants aim to protect local programs amid federal funding cut threats.
Cooney criticized the federal funding cuts, calling it “irresponsible government” to withhold these funds when people rely on them.
“The ROC grants are just one part of the puzzle and proof that New York continues to give back to the organizations that do so much to give back to our vulnerable populations,” Cooney said.
The funding was announced in May. Cooney said they received 115 applications totaling $18 million. Some of the locations expected to get the funding include the Rochester Public Library, Jordan Health Corporation, Urban League of Rochester, Willow Domestic Violence Center, and Delphi Rise.
Most of the funding is set to go to Beta Chi Chi, Inc. the local chapter of the Chi Eta Phi, Inc. sorority which represents nurses from diverse backgrounds.
$175,000 of the funding is set to go to the chapter.
