A grandfather’s visit to a suburban grocery store turned out to be a lucky one after he won the grand prize from a scratch-off ticket — which he only chose because his favorite game was sold out.
According to the Illinois Lottery, Clarence Nuenkirchen of Montgomery won $200,000 from a 7X Bingo Multiplier scratch-off ticket sold at Jewel-Osco, located at 3795 Orchard Road in Oswego.
“I was hoping to buy my favorite $5 Crossword ticket, but it was sold out,” Neuenkirchen said in the release. “7X Bingo Multiplier is my second favorite—it feels like a little escape. I can take my time playing it.”
Neuenkirchen, a grandfather, said his wife jumped up and down with excitement when he shared the news.
“I honestly thought she was going to break the floor,” Neuenkirchen said, who added that he plans to invest in his retirement, set up education funds for his grandchildren and take a trip with his wife with his winnings.
According to the the release the grocery store will get $2,000 for selling the winning ticket.
Illinois Lottery Instant Ticket games are priced between $1 to $50, available at approximately 7,000 retail locations across Illinois, the release said.
