Ian Schieffelin took Clemson’s basketball program to unprecedented heights. He’s hoping his standout production on the hardwood will translate to success on the gridiron, but we won’t get our first glimpse of him on a football field until Week 2.
Last weekend, Schieffelin was arrested and charged with suspicion of DUI. On Tuesday morning, he released a statement through his attorney on the matter. Schieffelin revealed his DUI charge was dismissed, but that he had accepted a ticket for reckless driving. He also acknowledged he will be suspended for Saturday’s showdown with LSU.
“I am determined to learn from this experience and move forward with renewed focus,” Schieffelin wrote in the statement. “I fully understand the responsibility that comes with being a student-athlete at Clemson, and I remain committed to conducting myself in a manner that reflects positively on the university, my teammates, the athletic department and myself… [I’ve] learned a valuable lesson from this experience and my commitment is to grow from this, and to represent Clemson with the integrity and character it deserves.”

— Jon Blau (@Jon_Blau) August 26, 2025Schieffelin averaged 12.4 points, 9.7 rebounds and 2.7 assists for Clemson basketball in 2024-25. When he committed to Clemson football in May, head coach Dabo Swinney expressed belief that Schieffelin could make his way to the NFL.
“[Schieffelin] has elite football measurables that I believe will translate well,” Swinney said, according to ESPN. “I’m looking forward to helping him transition and build a football foundation that will give him a chance to not only help us at Clemson but also give him a chance to play pro football. It should be fun.”
Schieffelin’s football debut will come on Sept. 6 vs. Troy.
