The first game of the season is already serving up drama off the field.
According to Front Office Sports, Ohio State is barring Barstool Sports and its founder, Dave Portnoy, from entering Ohio Stadium for Saturday’s primetime matchup against Texas.
Sources told reporter Ryan Glasspiegel that while Portnoy will appear on Fox’s Big Noon Kickoff earlier in the broadcast, he won’t be allowed to join the crew inside the stadium once the show moves from campus to the Horseshoe (a nickname for Ohio Stadium).
The move isn’t entirely unexpected. As Glasspiegel explained, former Ohio State linebacker Bobby Carpenter noted on his Columbus radio show Monday that plenty of people around the program were “not all that happy about [Portnoy] being hired” by Fox.
His co-host Austin Ward went further, saying Portnoy is “not welcome inside the Horseshoe.”
The news was apparently received by Portnoy, who reshared Front Office Sport's story on X with an image of himself wearing what appears to be a fake mustache. He also shared a screenshot of an image showing that his name had began trending on the platform.

— Dave Portnoy (@stoolpresidente) August 26, 2025Portnoy, a University of Michigan graduate, has made a career out of needling Ohio State and head coach Ryan Day. His trolling has only intensified in recent years as the Wolverines extended their winning streak over the Buckeyes to four straight.
Last December, before Ohio State’s College Football Playoff game against Tennessee, Portnoy even arranged for a plane to fly overhead with a banner reading: “Extend Ryan Day #GoBlue.”
Day ultimately silenced critics by leading the Buckeyes to a national championship and signing a seven-year contract extension worth $12.5 million annually.
Still, Portnoy’s banishment is likely to fuel more back-and-forth in the rivalry — especially given his new role with Fox Sports.
Parade reached out to both Fox Sports and a rep for Ohio State football, but did not immediately hear back.
