Former Florida standouts cut by Tampa Bay Buccaneers, per reports

A pair of ex-Florida stars have been cut by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as NFL teams were required to trim down their rosters on Monday.

Former Florida quarterback Kyle Trask was among the cuts. Trask has been with the Bucs as a backup quarterback for multiple seasons, but lost the backup quarterback job to Teddy Bridgewater. As a result, Trask is reportedly going to be a free agent for the first time since joining the Tampa Bay organization.

ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler was first to share that news on Monday evening:

The #Bucs plan to release quarterback Kyle Trask, per source. He will revert to IR with a shoulder issue, then work out a settlement or release soon and look for a new team. Tampa’s long-time QB2 on the move. pic.twitter.com/VWxPXCVDYp

Trask was a 2nd round pick by the Bucs back in 2021, but played sparingly for the franchise. He’ll look for a new team after attempting just 11 passes across the last 4 seasons. At Florida, Trask was one of the SEC’s best quarterbacks during his time in the league — he led the conference with 43 touchdown passes back in 2020.

Former Florida defensive tackle Desmond Watson was also cut by the Bucs on Monday, per a report from Greg Auman. Watson hadn’t been practicing with the team due to being overweight. Auman’s report suggests Watson isn’t in Tampa Bay’s practice squad plans, either.

Bucs are waiving rookie defensive tackle Desmond Watson, who had been on the non-football illness list all of training camp. Had needed to get his weight down — could have moved him to reserve-NFI, but they'll cut him outright. Not going to practice squad at the moment.

The Bucs listed Watson at 449 pounds on its online roster.
