Legendary singer Billy Joel's daughter, Alexa Ray Joel, opened up in a new interview about her father's thoughts after hearing her new music for the first time.
The 39-year-old singer-songwriter, whose mother is model Christie Brinkley, spoke with HELLO! about her newest song called "Riverside Way," a moody tune with a bold beat and Alexa Ray's sultry vocals to match.
She told the publication that Joel was the first to hear the song and "he was taken aback" by it, adding, "I was really happy because he loved it; it was thrilling."
Alexa Ray noted that Joel felt like the style of music was unexpected from her, saying, "He was like: 'This is such a departure for you; this is really experimental.' And he asked me how I came up with it, because it didn't seem like me."

The eldest daughter of Joel opened up about why the track was surprising to her father, explaining, "I think people primarily see me as a good girl. I rarely go out and don't drink that much."
"But a few years ago, I had this one summer where I had some inspiration; I went out and drank and was as wild as I can be," she went on. "I had a lot of fun and I wanted to channel it into a song. I think it's always important to mix it up. I hope it takes people by surprise."
The official music video for the song co-stars Alexa Ray's fiancé, Ryan Gleason, as the male lead.
"Riverside Way" is Alexa Ray's First Single Since 2021
Alexa Ray's last musical release before "Riverside Way" was the single "Seven Years," which came out in 2021.
In an interview with People released at the time, she revealed that the song was about her relationship with Gleason, saying, "It narrates both the highs AND lows of my relationship, with an overarching message of hope... and pangs of reeling vulnerability and melancholia throughout."
The singer began her singing career with the EP Sketches, released in 2006, followed by several singles over the years. This included "For All My Days" in 2008, "Invisible" in 2009, "Notice Me" in 2010, "All I Can Do Is Love" and "Beg You to Stay" in 2011, and "Just the Way You Are" in 2013. Alexa Ray appeared to take a long break from releasing music before she came back with "Seven Years" in 2021.
