Pipeline Rankings, Cap Situations, Former Hawks Head to Europe, and Other Blackhawks Bullets

Last week we looked a number of stories that discussed the futures of NHL teams and the league as a whole. I’ve been waiting for Corey Pronman at The Athletic to begin his annual preseason series in which he ranks NHL pipelines, and he started that on Monday morning. He’s going to reveal eight teams per day, starting at the bottom of the league. Good news for the Blackhawks: two of his bottom eight are in the Central Division. Pronman has the Avalanche dead last and the Jets ranked 25th.

I’ve noted before that Pronman has been one of the national writers who hasn’t been high on Frank Nazar in the past. But he does like some of the other young Blackhawks prospects more than others, so there is some balance. He gave the Blackhawks’ 2025 draft class a B+ back at the end of June. And, in January — before Sam Rinzel or Oliver Moore made their NHL debuts — he had seven Blackhawks players in his top 100 players/prospects under the age of 23 (not including Nazar somehow).

    — Corey Pronman (@coreypronman) August 25, 2025 Scott Maxwell at Daily Faceoff introduced the methodology behind his rollout of NHL team salary cap rankings. I like his approach. Here’s the link to his approach. I’ll be watching to see how he views the Blackhawks.
