CUBS LINEUP — When the Angels’ probables were first getting sorted this weekend, it looked like Kyle Hendricks wasn’t going to face his former team. But that has obviously since changed, and The Professor is taking the mound today against the following Cubs lineup.
I always wish Kyle Hendricks the best … but today, I hope he gets pounded.
Chicago Cubs Lineup:
Michael Busch, 1B Kyle Tucker, RF Seiya Suzuki, DH Pete Crow-Armstrong, CF Carson Kelly, C Ian Happ, LF Nico Hoerner, 2B Dansby Swanson, SS Matt Shaw, 3BMatt Shaw is back in the starting lineup, batting ninth and everyone else is in their usual spots. Let’s see if they have any leftover runs from their binge last night. Go Cubs. Get that sweep. Pass the Professor’s class, etc.
Los Angeles Angels Lineup:
Zach Neto, SS Mike Trout, DH Taylor Ward, LF Jo Adell, RF Luis Rengifo, 3B Travis d’Arnaud, C Nike Kavadas, 1B Christian Moore, 2B Bryce Teodosio, CFPitching Matchup:
Chicago Cubs: Jameson Taillon, RHP
Making his first start in two months in the second game of a doubleheader against the hottest team in baseball (after his start was pushed back a day by rain), Jameson Taillon was nothing short of brilliant: 6.0 IP, 5H, 1ER, 1BB, 4K. And the most impressive part is that he did that after throwing 29 pitches in the first inning. He turned a near disaster into a quality start. It was very awesome and particularly encouraging, seeing as he’s going to be a critical piece of this puzzle the rest of the way.
Los Angeles Angels: Kyle Hendricks, RHP
On the whole, our old friend Kyle Hendricks hasn’t been great this season, but he hasn’t been a disaster, either. He’s taken the mound 24 times, including seven quality starts, and even has a few gems in there (like his game against the Tigers: 7.2 IP, 4H, 1ER, 0BB, 3K).
That said, it’s been a little rougher lately, with a 5.54 ERA since the start of July, and 12 ER over his last 14.1 IP.
Again, I hope he has a strong finish to the season, but that’s going to have to start after today. I love you, Kyle, but please don’t say you’ve saved your nastiest changeups for today.
