Having made his Test debut in 2010, Pujara went on to amass over 7000 runs from 103 matches. He finished his career as the eight highest run-getter for India in Test cricket. The Saurashtra batter last played for India in the World Test Championship (WTC) final against Australia in June 2023 following which he was left out of the Test team.
Pujara now joins the list of veterans like Ravichandran Ashwin, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli who have announced their retirement over the last 8 months. The only other seasoned cricketer who is yet to take a call on his future is Ajinkya Rahane.
Pujara was arguably one of the best number 3 batters for India in the longest format of the game. Between 2010-2023, he managed to score 6529 runs from 155 innings while playing at that position and averaged 44.41.
Following his exclusion from Team India since 2023, Pujara turned towards domestic cricket where he continued playing for Saurashtra. He also embraced broadcasting duties, offering his brilliant insight via commentary.
