ROCHESTER, N.Y. – After the 5 days of near or below normal temperatures, we’ll rebound to the mid 80s today alongside increasing clouds, a decent southwest breeze, and some humidity. We should stay mostly dry however, but can’t rule out a late shower especially east of the Rochester region. Overall, outdoor plans should be a go for today.
Overnight chances for showers and thunder increase as a cold front draws near. That front passes through Sunday which will scrape up warmth and moisture to produce a line of thunder that right now is not looking severe. There could be some small hail and a gusty breeze, but nothing concerning enough to warrant a Yellow Alert. Before and after the line of thunder passes, expect clearer skies than today, especially after the front passes. Highs will be in the low 80s.
The jet stream takes a big dive south over the next several days which will bring down cool, cyclonic air that could help trigger some lake effect rain showers, but we likely will not get enough rain over the next ten days to help alleviate our drought. What we will get is a long stretch of 70 (and even 60) degree weather, making for a pleasant continued break from the heat. Dew points will take a big tumble as well, so you may need to break out the chapstick as the air gets drier and drier.
