HILTON, N.Y. — The annual “Gary Beikirch Memorial Blood Drive,” that honors local Medal of Honor recipient Sgt. Gary Beikirch takes place on Saturday.
The blood drive will take place from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. at the First Bible Baptist Church on Manitou Road in Hilton.
Beikirch, a Greece native, died in December 2021 of pancreatic cancer at the age of 74. He was an army medic who served in Vietnam War.

In 1970, Beikirch got hit by shrapnel while trying to rescue soldiers during an attack on the camp he was staying at. Although he was partially paralyzed, he refused treatment and continued to help save others.
