PERINTON, N.Y. — Dozens of cats are receiving care after being rescued from a home on Kreag Road. The Monroe County Humane Society removed 45 cats from the house.
This is not the first time a large number of cats has been found in this home. More than 100 cats were rescued during a fire in 2021.
Perinton Town Supervisor Ciaran Hanna said action was taken after the town received reports of cats being kept in unsafe conditions in the home.
“They were moved from the home and went to Lollypop Farm. I believe the owners were able to take a few of their cats back” — the ones that were properly registered, Hanna noted.
Hanna was not certain Thursday what charges might be filed. The owners remain in the home.
“There are still some cats outside the home, and we’re going to monitor that situation as well and try to address that,” Hanna said. “One of the main concerns is, a lot of the cats that they took out, they had some health issues, and so the Humane Society took them to Lollypop Farm for treatment that they needed. Some of them were in a little rough shape.” He said the town wants to keep the animals’ health and safety at the forefront.
