Things are heating up for General Hospital’s Cody Bell (Josh Kelly). As Kristina’s seduction scheme to manipulate Ava takes center stage. Kelly is opening up about if it is time Cody comes clean and what that could mean for his future.
On-Screen, Kristina recently hired Cody to seduce Ava away from Ric, an easy task for the ‘reformed’ con-man to take on. However, what Kristina did not anticipate was Cody developing feelings for her sister Molly nor was she expecting Molly to develop reciprocating feelings.
Kelly was recently interviewed by Soap Opera Digest where he discussed the recent story developments on American television’s longest running soap opera.
Reflecting on Tracy learning the truth about Cody’s actions with Ava the actor shared with Soap Opera Digest “That got under his skin, he does want acceptance from Tracy and he feels like he’s letting her down. I think a lot of people don’t learn our lesson, so we keep getting in trouble. That’s been true for Cody, but I think Cody is kind of done.”
Kelly explains how his character is wrestling with what to do and how he has turned his life around, sharing, “He’s starting to see that he can have a real life and he doesn’t have to settle for just trying to hustle his way through life to get by. He has been building friendships and relationships and his life could have more value than just making a little bit of money if he’s true to the people that have been good to him.”
The actor opened up on the way that Cody has been integrated into his family with Mac and Felicia. “He’s part of a family now, he’s really been kind of filling the role of uncle and almost like a father figure for James, and with what’s going on with Maxie,” The actor continued, “he really feels like he needs to step up.”

Kelly explained that things were never meant to be complicated with the arrangement. “He’s justified this Ava deal as a win-win, you know?” He explained to Soap Opera Digest, continuing, “He’ll make some money, and he’s kind of helping Ava, because Ric isn’t into her anyway — at least, not as into her as he is Elizabeth.”
The actor went on to explain how what Cody is doing isn’t pushing Ava away from Ric as much as it’s pushing Cody away from a potential future with Molly. Kelly said, “But in actuality, he’s just distancing himself from a real relationship and a real connection” — which is to say, the one that has sparked up between him and Molly.”
So is it time for the con-artist to come clean? Kelly shared, “Cody’s gut has been telling him, and Tracy has been telling him, that it is no longer the easy out to take the money, It’s gotten too difficult and too complicated. So, the path of least resistance is to come clean.”
Kelly joined General Hospital in 2022 after becoming a fan favorite on fellow ABC soap opera One Life to Live. Rumors surrounding Kelly’s future on the soap opera were recently put to rest as the actor confirmed that going off contract was his decision and did not indicate his plans to leave the his series anytime soon.
