Poud the Ground 5K
A 5K in Mendon Ponds Park on Thursday evening is aiming to raise money to support local veterans. The Veterans Outreach Center is hosting the annual Pound the Ground 5K.
Runners will meet at the Stewart Lodge on 95 Douglas Road. Check-in begins at 5 p.m. and the run begins at 6:30 p.m. You can register here and there is a discount for active military and veterans.
People can run individually or as a team. Active-duty military, reservists, and veterans are invited to compete for the Golden Boot, a trophy for the fatest team. The military branch with the top three fastest times will be recognized with an engraved plaque. Businesses can run as a Corporate Road Warrior team,with the fastest organization taking home a trophy.
Sunset Sips
The Sunset Sips series continues on Thursday. People can visit Austin Steward Plaza along the Genesee Riverway Trail near Andrews Street for live music, drink tastings, and food vendors.
Downtown Definitely says it organized the free series to give people an after-work gathering spot. It’s taking place from 5 to 7 p.m. The last Sunset Sips of the season will take place on Thursday, Sept. 11.
Great New York State Fair day two
The fairgrounds in Syracuse are once again full of food, live music from all-star acts, farm animals, rides, and all kinds of attractions. Thursday marks day two of the Great New York State Fair.

The fairgrounds at 581 State Fair Blvd. are open from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily. Thursday’s music lineup includes the AJR and Cheap Trick.
