Two of the most popular roller coasters at Six Flags Great America in Gurnee are temporarily closed without set reopening dates, a spokesperson for the amusement park said.
Maxx Force and Raging Bull are both currently shut down for maintenance, the spokesperson said.
The park spokesperson did not specify what maintenance Maxx Force is undergoing but said they do not have a reopening date as of Wednesday.
“We hope to have it back soon,” the spokesperson said of the drag racing themed coaster.
Raging Bull is getting a major refresh in the form of “an exciting refresh with a new coat of paint,” the spokesperson said.
The fan-favorite ride will be painted in the same hue of orange and maroon as its original paint job.
While Six Flags said they do not have a definite timeframe for reopening, they are “hoping to complete this project before the end of the 2025 season, weather permitting.”
“With over 5,000 feet of track, there is a lot to accomplish before the Midwest winter rolls in,” the park spokesperson said.
The park moved to weekend only hours through Labor Day on Aug. 18.
For thrill seekers looking for an alternative to the closed coasters, Fright Fest will bring haunting horrors and “all-new nightmares” to the amusement park on weekends and select weeknights Sept. 13 and through Nov. 2.
Plus, earlier this summer, Six Flags Great America’s newest roller coaster, the “Wrath of Rakshasa,” opened at the park.
