A 10-year-old from a small island in Hawaii just finished off a big-time summer of success.

Griffin Lin from Swim Kauai Aquatics, the only club on a Hawaiian island with roughly 75,000 residents, broke records and climbed to or near the top of national rankings in the boys 10 & under age group.

At the Western Zone Age Group Championships (long course) in Elk Grove, California, Lin broke his own Hawaiian records in winning the 50 breast (37.14), 100 breast (1:21.05) and 200 IM (2:39.08). He ranks 87th all-time in the 200 IM.

Lin owns the fastest times this season in the boys’ 10 & under age group (long course) in the 50 breast and 100 breast. In the 100 breast, he topped his previous personal best (1:21.48) by 43 one-hundredths. His time in the 50 breast is 21st all-time, while he ranks 13th all-time in the 100 breast.

Lin also won the 50 fly ( 32.03), was 2nd in the 100 fly (1:10.24) and 3rd in the 100 back (1:16.28). In the boys’ 10 & under age group, he has the fourth-fastest time in the 200 IM, the fifth-fastest in the 100 fly and the seventh-fastest in the 50 fly.

His time in the 100 fly was more than five seconds ahead of his previous personal best (1:15.33) and now ranks 32nd all-time. Lin also ranks 92nd all-time in the 50 fly.

A week later, Lin continued to swim fast at the 2025 Kauai Classic, a short course event.

Lin broke four more Hawaiian records, most notably topping a 29-year-old record in the 200 IM with a personal best time of 2:20.46. He also set new records in the 200 back (2:24.98), 200 breast (2:34.15) and 200 fly (2:22.86).

In the boys’ 10 & under age group (short course) this season, Lin ranks third in the 50 breast and 100 breast, and seventh in the 200 IM.
