THAT’S A DOUBLE-HEADER SWEEP!
What a difference a day makes. Just yesterday, the Cubs looked so lifeless that the prospect of them having to play two games today against the Brewers was, uh, not something I was looking forward to.
But now I’m happy again! Because the Cubs won both games! This is what joy feels like!
The Cubs played great defense tonight, pitched well, and had just enough timely hitting to give them a comfortable lead heading into the later innings. It was just a very enjoyable experience, maybe even more so than this afternoon’s win. Love to see all the contributions coming from guys who weren’t part of this team until recently. They’ve clearly needed some shots in the arm.
Jameson Taillon was within a single strike of cruising through a wildly rapid first inning in his return to the big league rotation. But then the Brewers got exceedingly pesky, and annoyingly put runners on base, made Taillon work, scored a run, made Taillon work. By the end of the first, Taillon was up to 30 pitches and it seemed like he might be in for a very short outing. Given the way things played out, and given that it was a double-header day where innings were precious, he’s the Ankin Law “Making It Personal” Player of the Game for me. Welcome back to the rotation, Jamo.
Matt Shaw runs like such a wild animal. It’s hilarious and great.
Owen Caissie came through again in the nightcap – what a day for the rookie.
