Social media can be unforgiving for reaction to even the smallest of errors. But for big ones like the one that ESPN college football analyst Greg McElroy committed on Tuesday?
Well, those big-time gaffes produce big-time reactions from the social media world.
During his Always College Football podcast on Tuesday, the former Alabama quarterback who led the Crimson Tide to the national title in 2009 appeared to get a little ahead of himself in 2025. Or a lot ahead of himself.
What made the graphic error even funnier on social media out of context — but not for McElroy — was that McElroy looks serious when discussing Matt Rhule going 12-13 in his first 2 years in Lincoln and how that’s never ideal but there’s reason for hope this season.
While the SEC did expand with the additions of Oklahoma and Texas in 2024 it hasn’t quite gotten to Nebraska yet. The Cornhuskers currently reside in the Big Ten. While the Huskers might eventually find their way into the SEC, right now it’s the Big Ten.
Here is McElroy breaking down Nebraska’s chances to win the Big Ten, while the graphic says SEC:
It's true. Everyone is doubting Nebraska's ability to win the SEC. pic.twitter.com/gkxn4Utj5e
— Awful Announcing (@awfulannouncing) August 19, 2025Naturally, social media had a field day with McElroy’s ridiculous error. These are just a sample of the posts roasting McElroy:
