England U21 ace Jonathan Rowe backed by Mason Greenwood and Marseille team as Rabiot brawl sees stars transfer listed

ENGLAND under-21s star Jonathan Rowe has been backed by Marseille team-mates in his bust-up with World Cup star Adrien Rabiot.

Rowe and Rabiot have both been suspended and placed on the transfer list by the French club and the former Norwich winger looks increasingly likely to move to Bologna.

The stars clashed in the dressing room after Marseille lost their Ligue 1 opener against Rennes.

Yet Rowe, who joined Marseille from Norwich in a £14.7million deal 12 months ago, did not instigate the heated row which was started by Rabiot and saw both players come to blows.

Stunned team-mates who saw the incident included former Manchester United striker Mason Greenwood and they all believe Rowe was not in the wrong and Rabiot was the aggressor.

Former Brighton boss Roberto de Zerbi had already slammed the team after the loss.

Neither Rowe or Rabiot are training with the first-team squad ahead of the next game against Paris FC on Saturday.

The French club said in a statement: “Marseille announces that Adrien Rabiot and Jonathan Rowe have been placed on the transfer list by the club.

“This decision was taken due to unacceptable behaviour in the dressing room after the match against Rennes, in agreement with the technical staff and in accordance with the club’s internal code of conduct.”

Rowe caught the eye at the U21 Euros this summer and scored the winning goal as England beat Germany in the Uefa European under-21 Championships in Slovakia.

Yet Rowe’s future had already looked uncertain because Marseille signed Igor Paixao from Feyenoord for £30m.

Bologna are leading the chase while Roma have already been interested along with two Premier League clubs.
