Hawks Beat News, Michigan Lands OHL Prospect, New Bidders in Pittsburgh? and Other Blackhawks Bullets

It’s August. Which means it’s football season in Chicago. And, sadly, that is impacting who you follow for Blackhawks news and thoughts. Phil Thompson is leaving the Blackhawks beat at the Chicago Tribune. He’s moving over to cover the Bears. He is an outstanding writer and I enjoyed spending time with him at practices and before/during games. The press box won’t be the same without him. Here’s hoping he brings the Bears some luck this season!

Make sure to give Kalen Lumpkins a follow for your Blackhawks coverage at the Trib moving forward.

Some (exciting) news on my part: I'm now the Chicago Blackhawks beat reporter for the Tribune. It's been a dream to be on a pro team beat, and it's crazy that it's happening. I'll still do some GA sports stuff, but Hawks coverage will come from me. Here's to a fun season ? pic.twitter.com/DPI1HcNndQ

    — Kalen Lumpkins (@kalenalumpkins) August 18, 2025 ICYMI we’re going to stroll down memory lane this week and rank the top 25 Blackhawks of all-time as part of our month-long celebration of the organ-I-zation’s Centennial season. Yesterday we started with the honorable mentions and Nos. 21-25. Keep an eye out for the next five later today. And, as always, let us know who we’re missing and where we’re right.

This morning we begin our countdown of the Top 25 Players in #Blackhawks history at @BN_Blackhawks How many of the dynasty era players crack the list? And which fan favorites are only Honorable Mention? Starting with Nos. 21-25: t.co/nFL9wBleIB

    — Tab Bamford (@The1Tab) August 18, 2025 Elliotte Friedman reported for Sportsnet yesterday that the “Chicago-based Hoffmann family, owners of the ECHL’s Florida Everblades, has emerged as a serious contender to purchase the NHL team from Fenway Sports Group.” David Hoffman, the founder and chairman, reportedly “told the Naples Daily News at the time [that he bought the Everblades] that he’d looked into buying both NHL and NBA teams.” The Columbus Blue Jackets signed forward Hudson Fasching to a one-year, two-way contract. This was an interesting statement from the Kitchener Rangers to read yesterday. Adam Valentini, who was ranked 26th in Scott Wheeler’s 2026 NHL Draft rankings on Monday, has opted to play the 2025-26 season at the University of Michigan instead of Kitchener. This was interesting not only because he’s backing out of his OHL commitment to play at Michigan, but also because Blackhawks prospect Jack Pridham backed out of his commitment to Boston University to stick with the Rangers this season.
