BROCKPORT, N.Y. – Brockport Central School District launched a new initiative to help high school students earn tuition-free college credits.
The tuition-free dual credit courses at Brockport High School are part of a partnership with SUNY Brockport and Monroe Community College and through the Early College Access Program.
“To be able to remove the barrier of tuition so that the kids can actually attain the credits from the colleges feels fantastic,” Superintendent Sean Bruno said.
This initiative aims to make college coursework more accessible to students during high school, regardless of their post-graduation plans.
“I think this program is critically important to be able to bridge the gap between high schools and colleges,” Bruno said.
“I think it will be a significant pipeline for our students who are interested in going the college route.”
The Board of Cooperative Educational Services partnership allows Brockport to use state funding for the program.
Multiple courses in Brockport High School’s catalog are available for dual credit.
“It is across all of our disciplines, from English, math, science, social studies, business, tech,” Assistant Superintendent for Instruction Ryan Lanigan said. “We offer it across all of our content.”
Credits earned can transfer to any SUNY colleges and Monroe Community College. Students will need to check how the credits transfer to other colleges.
“And now it’s tuition-free for our families,” Lanigan said. “So, these students, you know, as much as we can minimize that debt and allow them to be able to explore who they want to be. We really believe in student branding here in Brockport.”
