Butterfly specialist Ethan Silver will head to Florida State University this fall to continue his swimming career. Silver is from New York, where he attended George W. Hewlett High School and trains with the Long Island Aquatic Club.
“I am beyond thrilled to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at Florida State University! I am very thankful for my mom, family, coaches, teammates and friends who have supported me along the way. Lastly, I want to thank Coach Neal and Coach Ben for this incredible opportunity. Let’s get to work. GO NOLES!”
In March, representing George W. Hewlett High School, Silver was a finalist at the 2025 NYSPHSAA Boys Federation Championship (SCY), placing 5th in the 100 fly (50.27). He also competed individually in the 200 free (1:41.00). In the 200 medley relay, his team placed 3rd, with Silver swimming the fly leg and splitting 22.38.
Silver earned his quickest 200 free time in February at the 2025 Senior Metro Winter Championships (SCY), posting a time of 1:39.96 to secure 5th place and qualify for the NCSA Summer Championships. Additionally, he reached the finals in four other events, placing 4th in the 200 fly (1:49.22), 7th in the 200 IM (1:51.68), 13th in the 100 fly (51.17), and 15th in the 100 free (47.04).
Silver posted several personal bests at the 2024 NCSA Spring Championships (SCY) in March, including in the 100 free (46.60), 50 fly (22.95), 100 fly (49.10), 200 fly (1:45.95), and 200 IM (1:51.20). All of these times qualified him for the NCSA Summer Championships. His 200 fly time also qualified for the US Open Championships.
Silver advanced to finals in five events at the same meet, with finals held in long course meters, placing 6th in the 200 fly (2:03.59), 21st in the 400 IM (4:35.28), 30th in both the 100 fly (56.69) and 200 IM (2:11.41), and 38th in the 50 fly (26.25).
Distance freestyle is also a strength for Silver. At the PV NCAP Invitational (SCY) in December 2023, he recorded his fastest 500 free time of 4:32.64 during prelims, later finishing 8th in finals (4:34.14). He also placed 2nd in the 200 fly (1:48.06), 6th in the 400 IM (3:58.61), 12th in the 200 IM (1:52.13), 15th in the 100 fly (50.04), and 24th in the 100 free (49.61).

Silver has the potential to strengthen the team’s butterfly group, particularly in the 200 fly. Last season, the team’s fastest time in that event came from freshman Logan Robinson, whose 1:40.23 earned 11th place at the NCAA Division I Men’s Championships.
Silver will join Florida State alongside fellow recruits Thomas Matheson, Walter Kueffer, Alex Heinrich, Kaiser Dominik, and Matt Taylor. Both Matheson (1:46.56) and Heinrich (1:47.91) show strength in the 200 fly.
