Officers arrest suspected shoplifter, say he threatened them with a pocketknife

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — A police officer is recovering after RPD says a suspected shoplifter, with outstanding warrants, resisted arrest at Walmart on Friday.

RPD says it started when an officer and a detective tried to arrest Mack Martin, 32, outside the Walmart on Hudson Avenue, saying he stole from the store. Officers say Martin resisted arrest, pulled out a pocketknife, and threatened both officers.

Eventually the officers were able to arrest him and take the knife away. One officer was brought to the hospital with an upper body injury. Martin was also brought to the hospital and then to the Monroe County Jail.

Martin faces the following charges from the interaction on Friday:

Menacing a police officer Robbery in the first degree Assault in the second degree Resisting arrest Petit larceny

As for the outstanding warrants, they are both from last year. One is for trespassing in May and the other is because he’s suspected of threatening a store employee with a machete.
