Longtime horror author Stephen King shared his thoughts on the new horror movie, Weapons, which has been impressing both critics and audiences ever since its release on Aug. 8.
The 77-year-old, who has written extremely popular novels like It, The Shining, The Stand, and more, many of which have been adapted for the screen at least once, took to social media after seeing Weapons to share a blunt message about the movie.
King posted his short review on X, writing, "WEAPONS: Confidently told, and very scary. I loved it." While some fans agreed with the author's straightforward endorsement of the film, others called the movie "overrated" and disagreed with his review.

The new movie, which was written and directed by Zach Cregger, stars Julia Garner as a teacher whose entire class, except for one child, vanishes from their house one night, sparking a huge mystery that drives the plot.
Also in the film are Josh Brolin, Alden Ehrenreich, Benedict Wong, Cary Christopher, Jason Turner and more. Weapons currently has a 93% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and it is the top film at the box office right now.
Cregger Referenced King When Talking About His Process of Writing the Movie
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter about Weapons, the director talked about his writing process and brought up a quote from King.
Cregger described how he "literally went line by line" when coming up with the story, before saying, "Stephen King has that amazing metaphor where he’s like, 'You need to be a paleontologist, and you’re unearthing the dinosaur one bone at a time, but you don’t know what the dinosaur is.' That’s a beautiful way to create for me. Remove result from the process and just be discovery."
