Catherine Zeta-Jones shared a rare glimpse into her home life with husband Michael Douglas, which includes time spent at their four houses.
“I know it sounds very jet set, and I love to surround myself with beauty but it’s not excessive, it’s very comfortable,” Zeta-Jones, 55, told The Times in a Saturday, August 16, interview.
The couple, who wed in 2000, has two homes in New York, as well as one in Canada and one in Spain. Zeta-Jones and Douglas, 80, spend much of their time in Spain, where they are able to live more private lives out of the spotlight.
“Two celebrities together make 10. It’s just the way it is. There’s two versions of the story and there’s two make-believes,” she said. “We don’t listen to the crap that is written about us, that’s the main thing. And we respect our space, we’re independent spirits.”
The Chicago actress continued of her husband, “We are very similar; we were born on the same day, 25 years apart. We’re not afraid to be verbal, to express ourselves. I wear everything on my sleeve and so does he, which is good.”
Zeta-Jones opened up about their home life one month after Douglas revealed that he has ''no real intentions" of continuing to act. Also during the interview, she reflected on Douglas' decision to take a step back from his iconic career.

“Michael has definitely earned the chance to slow down. But I never say never,” she told The Times. “He’s his father’s son and loves to work — let’s just say, ‘retirement’ is a flexible concept.”
Douglas was dubbed as “Hollywood royalty" by The Times, as he's the son of iconic actor Kirk Douglas, who died at age 103 in 2020.
“He was a flirty little thing,” Zeta-Jones said of her late father-in-law. “He was wonderful and he was very fond of me, as I was of him. I miss him. They [Kirk and his wife, Anne] left a philanthropic legacy that was way beyond movies.”
