(KRON) -- A crow from Walnut Creek has tested positive for West Nile virus (WNV) in Contra Costa County, confirmed the Contra Costa Mosquito and Vector Control District on Friday.
California unemployment rate worst in the nation, according to state dataThis is the second West Nile-virus infected bird this year after a California scrub jay from San Ramon tested positive on July 21.
"The bird was reported to the California WNV Call Center," said the District in a news release on Friday. "Subsequent testing confirmed the crow was infected with WNV. Alameda, Santa Clara, and Solano Counties have also reported infected birds so far this year."
To lessen the risk of mosquito bites, the District suggests that residents use EPA-registered insect repellents with one of the below active ingredients:

"Another dead bird infected with West Nile virus is a good reminder for residents to take steps to reduce the risk of mosquitoes.”
