Matthew Wong from Fresh Meadows, New York has announced his commitment to continue his academic and athletic careers at Notre Dame beginning in the 2025-2026 school year.
“I am beyond excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at the University of Notre Dame! I would like to thank my family, coaches, friends, teammates, and everyone else who has supported me throughout this process. I would also like to thank Coach Josh, and the rest of the Notre Dame team for giving me this wonderful opportunity, and I can’t wait to be a part of the family!”
Wong competes for Knight Diving Academy under coach Kristopher Hoffman. He most recently competed at USA Diving Junior Nationals. There he finished 3rd in the boys synchro 3 meter final with a score of 251.94. Individually, he was 11th in the boys 1 meter (417.15 points) and 25th in the 3 meter.
In May, he competed at US Summer Diving Nationals and was 6th in the men’s 3 meter synchro event as well as 22nd in the 3 meter and 25th in the 1 meter.
The Notre Dame men finished 15th out of 15 teams this past season at the 2025 ACC Championships. The team was only represented by its diving team after men’s swimming was suspended this past season. The men’s swimming team will return to competition this fall under first year head coach Michael Norment.
The team only had two divers on the roster this past season, senior Daniel Knapp and junior Ben Nguyen. Nguyen scored all 45 points for the team at ACCs and went on to finish 29th in the platform event at the 2025 NCAA Championships.
Wong will arrive this fall as a member of the class of 2029 along with swimmers Maksim Manolov, Ethan DiFronzo, Evan Conti, Min-Gyo Jang, Brady Calkins, John Kroll, Zack Oswald, Owen Tharrington, and Luke Bucaro.
