Chicago Bears Head Coach Ben Johnson mentioned in his media availability before today’s practice that he wants one guy to come out and prove that the left tackle job is his.
Though the job continues to be up in the air after today’s practice didn’t bring as much clarity as the head coach would’ve hoped. Braxton Jones practiced with the ones for the most part in red-zone drills and participated with the second team for 11-on-11s, while Theo Benedet remained with the ones for 11-on-11s. On a series, Jones replaced Benedet at left tackle, resulting in back-to-back false starts, which is not a good sign.
Bears’ Defense Shines Again in Joint Practice
Dennis Allen and his defense continued their success in joint practice with the Bills. Today, the defense’s main stars were Tremaine Edmunds, Jaquan Brisker, and Kevin Byard. Edmunds recorded two interceptions, Brisker had two PBUs while covering Dawson Knox, and Byard snagged an interception, all of which occurred against reigning MVP Josh Allen.
Defensive Tackle Gervon Dexter also batted down a pass against the ones, while Ruben Hyppolite nabbed an interception against the Bills’ second team.

Quarterback Caleb Williams had a solid outing in today’s joint practice with the Bills, continuing to spread the ball, though taking some sacks as well. Both Rome Odunze and Olamide Zaccheaus continued their success today, with Zaccheaus recording a touchdown on a crosser from Caleb. Odunze even snagged back-to-back touchdowns from his QB in the red zone, one of the two being recorded (via Ark):

— Ark (@dabearsark) August 15, 2025Despite Williams having another strong day—that makes three straight this week— and Rome Odunze being as noticeable as anyone at camp this week, the mental mistakes that occur pre-snap will be talked about most. The Bears recorded seven false starts in today’s practice: four with the first team, two with the second team, and one with the third team. Mental errors continue to plague training camp, and as much as I want to brush them under the rug, it’s hard.
I can only hope that everything will start to click as the left tackle position gets decided and the starters play preseason games.
