Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Australian Olympic diver Ellie Cole has committed to continue her career at Stanford University in the United States. She is expected to arrive in fall 2025.

Not to be confused with the decorated Australian Paralympic swimmer of the same name, Cole was a finalist at the 2024 Olympic Games on women’s 10-meter, ultimately finishing in 7th place.

Cole was born in New Jersey to Australian parents and moved to Australia when she was 6 months old. She lives in Sydney. She is a dual citizen of Australia and the United States.

Cole, 18, was a breakout performer in 2024. A scholarship holder with the New South Wales Institute of Sport, she began gymnastics when she was 6 and made the move to diving when she was 11.

Among her major domestic and international results:

2023 Australian Elite Junior Championships Individual Platform – 1st Place

2023 Australian Elite Junior Championships Synchro Platform – 1st Place 2024 American Cup Individual Platform – 1st Place 2024 American Cup Synchro Platform – 1st Place 2024 Canada Cup Synchro Platform – 1st Place 2024 Australian Open Championships Individual Platform – 2nd Place 2024 Paris Olympic Games – Finalist – 7th Place 2025 World Cup Super Final – 5th place 2025 Australian Open Championships Synchro Platform – 1st place 2025 Australian Open Championships Individual Platform – 1st place

Cole is also accomplished outside of the pool in academic pursuits. A self-professed enjoyer of physics and math, she says that she “enjoys the challenge of scientific research outside of school.”

In 2019, she won the University of Sydney Sleek Geeks Science Eureka Prize, and in 2022 she won 1st place in the Science Teachers Association New South Wales Young Scientist Awards.

Among other honors in science programs, she was chosen as an Australian representative for the International Science and Engineering Fair.

Cole is a true platform specialist – all of her international results have been on 10 meter. Her presence is a boon for the transitioning Stanford Cardinal, who will be under the lead of a new head coach Chris Lindauer this season.

Cole committed before that change to head diving coach Patrick Jeffrey, who will remain as part of Stanford’s new staff. Jeffrey is a five-time conference Diving Coach of the Year, including earning Men’s Diving Coach of the Year in 2025. Jeffrey is a two-time Olympic diver himself, representing the U.S. on platform at the 1988 and 1996 Olympic Games. He finished 9th in the latter of those events.

He has also served on several U.S. international coaching staffs, including the 2000 Olympic Team staff and the 2009 World Championship Team staff.

Since 2020, Stanford divers have won 13 conference titles between the Pac-12 and the ACC.

Last season, the Stanford women finished 2nd at the NCAA Championships, picking up only 14 diving points. Those were all via a 5th-place finish on platform from freshman Anna Lemkin. While the Cardinal have a new head coach, they return a higher percentage of their individual points (76.7%) than any other team in the top 4 from last year’s NCAA Championships.

The addition of Cole could be enough to help them fend off Texas for 2nd place behind the heavy favorites Virginia at the 2026 NCAA Championships.

Other incoming freshman include swimmers Anna Berlin, Ella Detter, Ella Jabolnski, Addie Robillard, and Annam Olasewere in what is one of the top recruiting classes in the country.

Local diver Molly Gray, who trains with the Stanford Diving Club, is also committed: she was the 2024 California High School State Champion on 1-meter and the 2025 U.S. Junior National Champion on the same. She also earned silver on 1-meter at the 2022 World Junior Championships. A springboard specialist, she will make an apt complement to Cole’s skill set.
