‘Extremely embarrassed: Grammy-nominated singer cancels tour due to low ticket sales

Grammy-nominated singer JP Saxe announced he has canceled his upcoming tour, including a Chicago show, due to poor ticket sales, delivering an honest message to his fans on TikTok about the struggles.

In late July, Saxe issued a plea for help.

“Extremely embarrassed to tell you this, but I’m going to tell you anyway. If I don’t sell 20-or-so-thousand tickets to my tour in the next 48 hours, it’s going to be canceled,” he said in a TikTok video.

In an August update, the singer said he was grateful for the response to his video, but it wasn’t enough.

“Over the last few days, we sold a few thousand extra tickets, and I am beyond grateful to every one of you who bought one,” he said. “Those 2,000 tickets are a reminder that being transparent and failure sometimes can be more powerful than the facade of success. They’re a reminder of how wonderful it can be to ask for help and watch a community come together. And this really was the nicest the internet has ever been to me. But what those 2,000 tickets are not is enough to save this tour. I’m really sorry.”

Saxe, a Canadian singer, earned a Grammy nomination for his collaboration with Julia Michaels on the hit song “If the World Was Ending” and has worked with famed artists like Sam Smith, H.E.R., Alessia Cara, Sabrina Carpenter, Niall Horan, Keith Urban, John Mayer and Finneas O’Connell.

Part of his tour included a Sept. 27 stop at Chicago’s The Vic Theatre. A Ticketmaster listing for the event has since changed to “canceled.”

Saxe said ticket purchases for the shows will be “fully refunded with a small side of immense gratitude from a dorky ginger Canadian.”

“I’m still a little embarrassed. I’m also feeling a lot of ambition to make sure this never happens again,” he said to his followers. “And just to make the most honest music I possibly can when the squad can grow and we can just have these full rooms. But until then, I love you and I’m grateful to each one of you who bought a ticket. And I’m really sorry.”
