Could love be in the air for former Groundhog Day costars Bill Murray and Andie MacDowell?
Well, if MacDowell’s daughter, Margaret Qualley, has her way, we could be in store for a romantic reunion decades in the making!
Qualley, 30, shared on the Thursday, August 14, episode of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon that she tried to play matchmaker backstage before Thursday’s taping. Qualley was on the show promoting her new movie, Honey Don’t!, while Murray, 74, appeared alongside musical guest act the Pedrito Martínez Group to perform their song “Ilusión Óptica.”
“Breaking news!” Qualley told host Jimmy Fallon and the studio audience as she revealed how Murray paid her a visit before the show.

“Bill Murray, literally tonight, he pops into my backstage dressing room,” the actress said. “He’s wearing a Piggly Wiggly shirt. And I grew up in North Carolina, and Piggly Wiggly’s a Southern thing.”
Qualley continued, “I was like, ‘Oh, yeah, Piggly Wiggly!’ Then, cut to I found out he’s living in Charleston. My mom’s living in Charleston.”
This promoted Murray to reveal that he and MacDowell, 67, didn’t have the best experience on the set of their 1993 hit comedy.
“I’m gonna give you the tea,” Qualley quipped. “He was like, ‘You know, your mom and I — we didn’t get along so good while we were making that movie.’ And he was like, ‘She took a lot of time to get her hair done, and she didn’t know her lines this one time.’ I was like, ‘Yeah, well, I heard a different story, sir.’”

Qualley went on, “I’m putting two and two together. He’s living in Charleston. She’s living in Charleston. They’ve got this kind of rage towards each other, but maybe he’s trying to make amends. And I’m like, she’s single, he’s single. They’re both crazy. Let’s get it together!”
The Substance actress said she hoped to meet Murray again after the taping to put him in touch with MacDowell. No word on if we’ll be getting that Groundhog Day reunion yet, however.
“I said to come circle back and get my number if he wants to connect with my mom,” Qualley explained.
She quipped, “And, you know, if he’s got any sense at all, he’d be the luckiest guy in the world!”

“Of course he would be!” Fallon agreed.
Qualley then said, “I hope he’s listening right now. Hi, Bill!”
