ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Brady Wambach, nephew of soccer legend Abby Wambach, is making his own mark in sports. The Pittsford native is a member of the United States U20 Lacrosse Team, where the team has the opportunity to play in South Korea.
And like the soccer legend and Brady’s aunt, Abby, an international experience is certainly something to write home about.
“I think it’s just such a cool experience to have someone in my family do this whole process and just kind of pass it on to me,” Brady Wambach said.
Brady, who is new to the international lax scene, described the experience of playing in South Korea as unforgettable.
“You never get to go to Jeju Island or South Korea on a given day. I think this trip has been something that we can’t even get our arms and heads around,” said Wambach.
Brady is not only aiming to win a World Championship but also to honor his late father, Peter, who passed away in December 2023.
“I can have him in the back of my head through every face off, through every play, and hopefully winning gold is something that I can do for him,” Wambach said.
Despite the loss of his father, Brady finds motivation in playing for his dad.
“His passing really hurt as a family, but I think that’s something that helps motivate me every day to get out of my room and think of him and do something that makes me happy,” Wambach said.
Brady hopes that winning a World Championship will serve as a lasting memory and tribute to his father.
“I think it’s more of something that can help, you think about it every single day in your room. It reminds you of that one trip you went in South Korea that you don’t usually get,” said Wambach.
The Wambach legacy continues with Brady, who plays for both his own legacy and his father’s memory.
