Tracker executive producer Elwood Reid teased how fan-favorite character Reenie’s story will continue in season 3 after several stars left the show.
“There’s going to be an attempt to build out the rest of the characters — particularly what’s happening with Reenie and where we left her off and what her life is looking like,” Reid told Us Weekly in an interview published on Thursday, August 14. “The show always comes back to that. What makes the show work in my opinion is Colter is a guy that comes in and says, ‘I can help you.’ It works every time.”
Reenie, portrayed by Fiona Rene, joined the show during season 1 and is an attorney who helps Colter (Justin Hartley) with his legal troubles
Reid also teased that season 3 will continue focusing on Reenie’s professional issues after she branched out on her own during season 2.
The producer shared what fans can expect from the character after several of the CBS show's stars left the series in a major shakeup. Tracker initially followed Colter and his team, handlers Velma (Abby McEnany) and Teddi (Robin Weigert), hacker Bobby (Eric Graise) and attorney Reenie.
Ahead of season 3, it was revealed that McEnany, 57, Weigert, 56, and Graise, 35, all left the show as main cast members. However, Chris Lee's Randy was promoted to a series regular after his recurring role in season 2.
“I do think it’s evolving. If I can’t evolve those characters — Randy or Reenie or Bobby — they’re not just people that just pick up the phone and go, ‘OK, here is the answer.’ That’s when the show is phoning it in,” Reid said of the cast changes. “The challenge is when you got to learn about them, which I thought was interesting. That’s the challenge of the show is not having it fall into a formula.”

He also noted that he didn't want the show to “fall into complacency.”
“The only rule I really have of the show is each week Colter is going to come to a new place and there’s going to be a new case. How he gets those answers and what he uses on the team, that’s all something that’s up for grabs,” Reid said. “Meeting these [local] weird characters is something we’re going to try to do more of as the season goes on. Just Colter coming in and interacting with other characters. That’s fun to see Justin flex those muscles with really good guest cast members.”
