12 takeaways from Taylor Swifts ‘New Heights appearance and the easter eggs found

Singer, songwriter and superstar Taylor Swift gave fans around the world a rare window into her thoughts, feelings and relationship with boyfriend Travis Kelce during an appearance on his podcast.

“On paper, we actually kind of have a very similar job. Like, our job is to entertain people for three-plus hours in NFL stadiums,” Swift joked. “When I’m there, it’s called a dressing room. When Travis is there, it’s called a locker room.”

Swift’s appearance on “New Heights” – hosted by Kelce and his brother, Jason – was highly-anticipated after the podcast teased multiple videos earlier in the week. The episode fittingly premiered on Aug. 13, likely a nod to Swift’s lucky number. Using a sparkly briefcase, Swift unveiled the album art for her new album “The Life of a Showgirl,” which drops Oct. 3. (The date is also likely a nod to her lucky number, as the numbers 10 and 3 add up to 13.)

Here were the 12 biggest takeaways we learned ahead of her 12th album:

    1. She revealed the 12 tracks on the album, including a collaboration with another famous popstar. The album is a complete pivot from her last album, “The Tortured Poets Department.“

“This is the record I’ve been wanting to make for a very long time,” Swift said. “I’m so proud of it. And it just comes from like the most infectiously joyful, wild, dramatic place I was in in my life.”

Travis Kelce described the tracks as “12 bangers.” Her co-producers are her mentor, Max Martin, and Shellback, both of whom helped Swift write some of her most famous upbeat songs, including Shake It Off, 22 and We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together.

“It felt like catching lightning in a bottle,” she said of working with them this time around.

As for why orange is the album’s color?

“It feels like, kind of, energetically how my life has felt, and this album is about what was going on behind the scenes in my inner life during this tour, which was so exuberant and electric and vibrant,” she said.

The twelve tracks are (in order): The Fate of Ophelia, Elizabeth Taylor, Opalite, Father Figure, Eldest Daughter, Ruin the Friendship, Actually Romantic, Wi$h Li$t, Wood, CANCELLED!, Honey, The Life of a Showgirl (ft. Sabrina Carpenter).

    2. Fans noticed a key easter egg that foreshadowed her new album “The Life of a Showgirl.”

Swift congratulated fans for noticing that on the last night of the Eras Tour, she didn’t take the lift to leave the stage. Instead, she exited through an orange door.

“I was like, (I) trained them well,” she joked.

She revealed she worked on the album while she was in Europe on tour, literally living the life of a showgirl.

“I would be playing shows. I’d do, like, three shows in a row. I’d have three days off. I’d fly to Sweden, go back to the tour. And actually like working on this, I was physically exhausted at this point in the tour, but I was so mentally stimulated and so excited to be creating,” she said.

    3. Getting the chance to own her masters again was extremely emotional for Swift.

She teared up while discussing what it meant to finally own her first six albums, music she wrote and poured her heart and soul into. In May, she purchased Taylor Swift (known to fans as “Debut”), Fearless, Red, Speak Now, 1989 and reputation, ending a long battle over who owns her music. Swift revealed during the podcast that her mom and brother, Austin, made a personal appeal to the investment firm Shamrock Capital in order to make the deal. When Swift found out she would finally get the opportunity to buy the masters, she was so overcome with emotion, she had a difficult time standing.

“It changed my life,” she told the Kelce brothers.

    4. The album “Red” was her favorite re-recording.

Swift famously re-recorded multiple of her albums after a dispute with music manager Scooter Braun, who bought Big Machine, her former record label, in 2019, meaning he owned the rights to her music. Swift recorded the albums “Fearless,” “Red,” “Speak Now” and “1989,” and called the new versions of the albums “Taylor’s Version.” She created new album artwork and added additional tracks called “vault” songs.

    5. All Too Well Ten Minute Version was her favorite song she’s ever written.

This revelation comes as no surprise to Swift’s most devoted fans, many of whom would also say the 10:12 soul-crushing song, produced by Swift and Jack Antonoff, is their favorite. The lyrics tell a story of heartbreak that can be seen through the short film she wrote and directed, starring Sadie Sink and Dylan O’Brien.

    6. Swift credits the podcast for her relationship with Travis Kelce, while he credits the Eras Tour.

The superstar and NFL player met after Kelce went viral for comments he made on his podcast in 2023 in which he said he attended the Eras Tour, but was disappointed he didn’t get a chance to connect with Swift. He said she was so “mesmerizing on stage” and had “such a desire” to meet her.

    7. They’re aware of the intense scrutiny surrounding their relationship.

Jason Kelce joked that he’s personally invested in the theories about their relationship. But Swift revealed she’s unfazed by the overwhelming attention online and from the media.

“I’ve been in the music industry for 20 years. It’s pretty hard to hurt my feelings at this point,” she said.

“She’s a pro, and it took me a little while to be a pro about it, I think,” Travis Kelce said.

A few minutes later, she asked, “Can you imagine if we just talked about what people said about our relationship?”

“If we talked about that, that would be all we talked about because there’s so much chatter. It’s like, we’re busy having an actual relationship,” she said.

    8. Swift and Kelce are each other’s biggest cheerleaders.

They gushed about each other repeatedly during the podcast episode. She called him a “vibe booster” and “human exclamation point,” and explained his deep love of otters. He complimented her intelligence and called her “so real and so beautiful in person.”

“She’s so hot when she says those big words,” he said after Swift used the word “esoteric.”

They spoke of how thrilling it was to travel the world and have adventures together during the Eras Tour, which Swift performed in 21 countries. Swift shared stories of her time with Jason Kelce, his wife, Kylie, and their four daughters, Wyatt, Elliotte, Bennett and Finnley.

    9. The Eras Tour was a “special” time of her life, but it was physically exhausting.

Jason Kelce asked Swift several questions about the impact of the Eras Tour on her life. While she revealed there isn’t anything she would have done differently, she did say the intense, three-hour show forced her to push her body in an “uncomfortable” way. She heavily trained before the tour, including endurance training and cardio.

Swift and the brothers also discussed the night in June 2024 when Travis Kelce appeared on stage with Swift in London.

“Were you nervous?” Jason asked his brother.

“I felt like an ant. I felt like the smallest piece of life ever,” Travis said, despite the fact that he has played football in some of the country’s biggest stadiums.

    10. While she’s on a break from touring, she’s able to get back to doing things she loves.

Swift revealed her favorite hobbies are reminiscent of – in her words – the 1700s. She loves to sew (her specialties are children’s purses and baby blankets), paint, cook and bake. She gets a new “baking obsession” every six months. Her current obsession? Sourdough. She reads sourdough blogs and spends time thinking about sourdough puns in connection with her song lyrics. Some of her best ones were: “Are you bready for it?” “It’s a loaf story. Baby, just say yeast” And “loafing him was bread.”

    11. She revealed her favorite things from the Eras Tour.

Swift put a lot of thought into the fans’ experience, incorporating elements of musical theater, broadway, ballet and opera. She said she loved watching how the tour bonded fans from different generations and how fans came up with their own traditions.

“I’ve never played for crowds that were as committed,” Swift said.

    12. Swift shared health updates about her parents.

Despite previously having “perfect” EKGs, a resting stress test revealed her father, Scott Swift, had five heart blockages, the popstar explained during the podcast episode. He underwent a quintuple bypass surgery a few months ago.

“He is doing incredibly well,” she said.

Fittingly, he tried to give guitars to all the nurses and doctors. However, he was wearing a hospital gown, so he didn’t have pockets to hold them.

Swift’s mother, Andrea Swift, battled breast cancer multiple times. During the podcast, Swift revealed her mom got “new knees” recently.

“This was just like the summer of my parental upgrades. Like, we’re just upgrading the parents, making sure that they live to be at least 186 years old,” Swift joked.
