Former Dancing With the Stars pro Edyta Sliwinska was diagnosed with cancer in 2024. In a candid update posted to social media, the ballroom dancer shared an important update.
"Exactly a year ago, I woke up from a semi-conscious state, and a man in a blue coat looked at me and said something no one ever wants to hear: 'It’s cancer,'" Sliwinska captioned an Instagram post on August 13. "I didn’t know if I would live to see today. I didn’t know how long I had left, how serious it was, or how my life would change."
"Today, I wear this scar under my belly as a reminder that life is incredibly fragile. It can crumble beneath you at any moment. Appreciate it, live it like there’s no tomorrow, enjoy it, and take care of your health," she continued. "I’m the luckiest person on earth to be here today, and every breath I take is filled with gratitude and love for what truly matters in life."
She went on to say that she feels healthy after making some changes in her life, including altering her lifestyle and her diet. Along with her update, Sliwinska posted a photo of herself in a bikini, showing off her impressive physique.

Sliwinska has shared a few updates about her health on social media. Back in September 2024, she told her fans that she "recently experienced a serious health scare."
"I had surgery three weeks ago, and I’m now recovering, getting stronger every day," she captioned an Instagram post at the time.
About two months later, she shared her cancer diagnosis publicly for the first time.
"I’m 45. Three months ago, I was diagnosed with cancer. Soon after, I had major surgery. I was lucky. Life could not be more beautiful," she said.
Sliwinska, who has not shared what type of cancer she was diagnosed with, received a great deal of love and support from fans.
"I’m glad that you are doing much better, you always look amazing!!" one person wrote.
"Celebrate your life, celebrate your body so glad that you are healing happy and healthy and your rock in that bikini girl," someone else said.
Sliwinska celebrated her 46th birthday in May.
Why did Edyta Sliwinska Leave 'Dancing With the Stars'?
Sliwinska was on OG on Dancing With the Stars, appearing on Season 1. She competed on 10 seasons before exiting the show, but she returned in 2016 for one season before leaving for good. Sliwinska never won a Mirrorball Trophy, however, though she did finish one season in the runner-up position.
"To be honest with you, I don’t want to be cocky or anything, but I think if I stayed there long enough, you know, if I kept continue back to the show, I think I eventually would have won that Mirrorball Trophy,” she said on a February 2024 episode of the “Sex, Lies, and Spray Tans” podcast.
Also on the podcast, Sliwinska explained that she left the show because she needed a more steady source of income. As many fans know, the pros don't find out whether or not they will be cast on an upcoming season until about a month before the season starts. This was too much uncertainty — and too much stress — for both Sliwinska and her husband, Alec Mazo, who both appeared on the show.
