Brady Bunch star Susan Olsen, known for her role as Cindy Brady, shared a poignant social media post about former child actress Dr. Danielle Spencer.
Remind Magazine reported that Spencer, who was diagnosed with breast cancer, died on August 11. She was 60 at the time of her death.
In response to Spencer's death, Olsen took to her official Facebook account and shared her fond memories of Spencer, who became famous for her portrayal of Deadra "Dee" Thomas in the comedy, What's Happening!!, which ran for three seasons until 1979. She referenced that Spencer and her What's Happening!! co-stars, Ernest Thomas, Haywood Nelson, and Fred Berry, filmed for the variety show, The Brady Bunch Hour. In addition, Spencer shared that the veterinarian ended up helping her pets throughout the years.
"Danielle will be very missed. She was brilliant in so many ways. Having her, Fred, Earnest and Haywood do our Variety hour was one of the best times! Then years later, I took a rescued kitten to urgent care and she was the doctor on call! She lent her gentle healing skills to several of my four footed friends," wrote Olsen.
Olsen also noted that Spencer sustained serious injuries in a 1976 car accident.
"Sadly, she endured a lot of pain herself due to the horrific car accident she was in that killed her step dad. I remember the day it happened, my mother was glued to the TV watching rescue efforts. She explained that Daniel [sic] was in the wreckage. She was in a coma for weeks after. RIP Beautiful Lady!" continued Olsen in the August 12 post's caption.
NBC News reported that Nelson, who portrayed What's Happening!! character Dwayne Clemens Nelson, announced Spencer's death in an August 12 Instagram upload.
"Dr. Dee, our brilliant, loving, positive, pragmatic warrior, without fail, has finally found her release from the clutches of this world and a body. We celebrate Danielle Spencer and her contributions as we regret to inform her departure and transition from a long battle with cancer," read the caption of the post. "We have lost a daughter, sister, family member, 'What’s Happening' cast member, veterinarian animal rights proponent and healer, and cancer heroine. Our Shero. Danielle is loved. She will be missed in this form and forever embraced."
