Soap fans were ecstatic when it was revealed that Karla Mosley would be joining Beyond The Gates as the beloved daughter of Fairmont Crest royalty Vernon and Anita Dupree, played by Clifton Davis and Tamara Tunie. Now, the actress is reflecting on what the role has meant to her and why she believes it carries such importance for viewers.
Mosley was recently interviewed on the Loungin With Tonypodcast hosted by Tony Moore. While there she was asked what it was like portraying fan favorite role. The actress said, “It's a dream. Like, what more can I say? It's like waking up on Christmas day and getting everything you wanted.”
Beyond the Gates is the first new soap opera to premiere on network television in the United States since Passions on NBC in 1999. It is also the first hourlong soap opera with a primarily black cast.
Mosley continued, “It's giving history. is giving culture and fun and drama and looks and yes strength.”
The actress was one of the first cast members announced for the groundbreaking daytime drama along with her on screen mother, Tunie, and her on-screen sister Nicole played by Daphnée Duplaix.
The actress explained that her perspective on the character sharing, “Danni is bold and she is not afraid to speak her mind. She loves fiercely and loudly and I think that's something that we all can use right now.”
She then explained her take on what drives her character saying, “Like let's be loud about what we want. Let's be loud about how we love and what's right, what's not right, and Dani has no problem doing that because she comes from this family. I think the key we have as black folks, we have a history of family units really driving us and being behind us, and being families to each other.”
Tying it all together, Mosley said, “So, to see someone who is so proud of who she is, and so strong in who she is, because of where she came from, and because of that legacy, I think it's something for us all to remember that we have strength just simply in in our roots, in our grandmothers and our grandfathers and in who we are and what we can give to our children and our nieces and nephews and those to come “
