Dewald Brevis and Kwena Maphaka are no strangers to spotlight. Brevis has earned comparisons with Baby AB ever since bursting on the scene. He was part of the Mumbai Indians set up and played for their franchises in Cape Town and New York as well. As for Maphaka, he mesmerized one and all with his U19 World Cup performances. Maphaka also featured for the Mumbai Indians in IPL 2024.
“The auction is always exciting, no matter the tournament, but SA20 is the big one, with most of the players back in the pool. There have been a lot of retentions and several wild cards picked up, so it will be interesting to see how the teams go about building their squads. I think Kwena Maphaka is going to be at the centre of a bidding frenzy. Dewald Brevis is another, given he hasn’t been retained,” Morris told Super Sport.
Since then the duo have gone on to make their Test debuts in Zimbabwe. Heads were turned after they lit up the ongoing T20I series against Australia. Maphaka has 7 wickets in 2 games showcasing his prowess with the old ball. Brevis meanwhile became the youngest South African to score a T20I century
Maphaka and Brevis were both part of IPL 2025 with the Rajasthan Royals and Chennai Super Kings respectively. Incidentally, Morris featured for both teams during his IPL career. Both teams have their sister franchises in the SA20 – Paarl Royals and the Johannesburg Super Kings.
