Antony Starr helped bring one of modern TV’s most chilling villains to life in Homelander from The Boys. Now, as the Amazon Prime series heads into its fifth and final season, Starr admitted he was going to miss the character.
“I love this show. And I love this character. Truly. I will dearly miss heading to work, knowing what we were aiming for but never knowing where we would find ourselves by the end of the day…only that we would have fun and it would be creatively rewarding in the extreme,” Starr, 49, wrote alongside a carousel of photos posted to Instagram on Wednesday, August 13. “This complicated character allowed the space and range to discover and push boundaries in a way I never expected and I will always be grateful for this experience.”
Starr went on to thank his fans, the crew and his “co-parent with this twisted gem of a character,” Eric Kripke.
“We created a monster, sir,” Starr told Kripke. “And I will miss him, and you.”

The former American Gothic star signed off by saying, “We cooked for the last time. Can’t wait to show you what we made. TIL that day, Homelander, signing off.”
The world was introduced to Homelander in 2019, and while he first presented himself as a superhero, it didn’t take long for audiences to realize he was no such thing. Starr’s portrayal of the character’s true personality when the mask fell off set viewers on edge with an undeniable uneasiness.
Homelander’s unpredictability has had fans holding their breath for six years because they were never sure what he was going to do next. When The Boys’ first season ended with Homelander using his laser vision to kill Madelyn Stillwell, any lingering question about whether he was simply misunderstood versus truly evil went up in flames.
While Homelander might have been both loved and hated, there’s no doubt that Starr had a blast bringing him to life on screen.
The Boys season 5 premieres sometime in 2026.
