Florida State has apparently seen a member of its defensive backs room leave the program with just weeks to go before the regular season.

Conrad Hussey, a third-year safety who has made 40 career tackles, is no longer with the Seminoles, according to 247Sports’ Brendan Sonnone. Per Sonnone, Hussey, who was held out of the Noles’ spring session due to injury, had “fallen out of favor with the coaching staff.”

Hussey was a 4-star recruit for Mike Norvell out of the 2023 class and was rated by 247Sports as the country’s No. 9 safety. As a true freshman, he recorded 22 tackles and an interception. In 2024, that total dropped to 18 as he was unable to take the next step in his development.

The timing of Hussey’s departure is interesting, especially with Florida State about 2-and-a-half weeks away from opening its season. The Seminoles start the campaign against Alabama on Aug. 30.

The cupboard isn’t completely bare for the Noles at the safety spot, though. K.J. Kirkland enjoyed a solid season in 2024 as he eventually beat out Hussey for a starting role. Florida State also returns Shyheim Brown, a fifth-year player and the top returning tackler on the team with 70.
