It's been roughly six years since Josh Brolin last portrayed the overarching villain of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Thanos.
Often regarded as one of the greatest cinematic villains of the 21st century yet, Brolin earned unsurprisingly warm reviews for his portrayal of the genocidal supervillain, with many fans referring to the character as one of Brolin's most popular performances yet.
Though Thanos officially met his well-deserved fate in 2019's Avengers: Endgame, Brolin himself has expressed interest in reprising his role as the unstoppable Mad Titan in a future Marvel project.
Making a recent appearance on Josh Horowitz's Happy Sad Confused podcast, the 57-year-old No Country for Old Men actor discussed whether he'd ever be consider returning to the MCU as the alien warlord, Thanos.
“If [Avengers: Endgame directors, the Russo Brothers] called me in London right now and said, ‘Let’s do this,’ I’d be like, ‘I’ll be there tomorrow,'” Brolin told Horowitz.
Famously, Brolin appeared as the first major villain of the MCU, serving as the main antagonist in Marvel's Infinity Saga.
While originally portrayed by Damion Poitier in the post-credits sequence of 2012's The Avengers, Brolin personally portrayed Thanos throughout various key films within the MCU, including Guardians of the Galaxy, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame.
With Robert Downey Jr.'s enigmatic Doctor Doom currently billed as the next big bad of the series, it's unlikely Brolin will play as prominent a role in the franchise if he were ever to return.
However, it's worth mentioning that several alternate versions of Thanos from parallel universe has appeared in the MCU, as seen through Disney+'s What If...? and 2022's Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
Speaking about the future of the MCU, Brolin went on to voice his excitement for the next installment of The Avengers, making clear his support for the Russo Brothers' work on the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday.
"Of course they’re gonna come up with something really fun. I mean, who knows?" the Weapons star said. "That [Endgame] was a 10-year and a building kind of thing and that was its own bookended deal, and I don’t know what they’re gonna do, but I’m sure it’ll be interesting.”
