ROCHESTER, N.Y. – So far we’ve been lucky with this heat wave due to the lack of humidity keeping heat index values near the actual temperature. That changes today as dew points rise into the mid 60s which will bring the heat index into the mid 90s, making today the most uncomfortable day of the week. One good piece of news is that this humidity will bring at least a chance for some rain in some spots.
Convergence along lake breeze boundaries will lift the hot and humid air upwards, producing some isolated showers alongside possible rumbles of thunder. Most areas will stay dry however, but tomorrow everyone should see some rain at some point as a cold front sweeps through. Although the areas that see the most consistent, heaviest rain could get between 1 and 2 inches, it won’t help us much to get out of our abnormally dry status, especially since we likely won’t see rain again this week.
Thursday gives us a break from the heat but not the humidity, Friday gives us a break from both. Then we’re back to the upper 80s/low 90s this weekend, with humidity rising Sunday alongside chances for thunder. A few cooler days in store by the middle of next week.
