In the film—a reimagining of the 2003 South Korean movie Save the Green Planet!—Stone plays a pharmaceutical CEO kidnapped by two conspiracy theorists, played by Jesse Plemons and newcomer Aidan Delbis. The head-shaving scene happens in the back seat of a stolen Range Rover, and what you see on screen is real. “Here we go—Emily has shaved her head,” Plemons, 37, recalled thinking. “We better make this good!”

Before the cameras rolled, the Oscar winner actually shaved director Yorgos Lanthimos’s head as a warm-up. But she admitted she cried in her trailer just beforehand, thinking about her mom, Krista Stone, who lost her hair during breast cancer treatment. “She actually did something brave,” Emma said. “I’m just shaving my head. My mom was like, ‘I’m so jealous. I want to shave my head again.’”

As for Lawrence’s take on the shaved head? “I really didn’t want her to shave her head,” she admitted. “I had already lived through the Billie Jean King haircut.” But after seeing it, the X-Men alum conceded, “Honestly, she looked beautiful. She pulled it off.”
