CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. – The Wilmot Cancer Institute hosted a picnic on Sunday, bringing together dozens of bone marrow transplant recipients from across the state to downtown Canandaigua.
The annual Bone Marrow Transplant Picnic gives patients a chance to reconnect with those who cared for them and meet others who have gone through similar experiences.
“It’s a really intense experience, and our patients and family members really connect, especially with our inpatient nurses and staff,” said Patrick Reagan, bone marrow transplant director at URMC Wilmot Cancer Center. “The staff that they fall in with after afterwards. And so this is a really great chance to get together, reconnect, also see other people who’ve gone through the same experience.”
Ninety stem cell transplant recipients attended this year’s picnic.
