I’d love to be able to tell you a different story than the one you already know. It’s the one we’ve all been watching for the majority of games the last few weeks. You can only say “the lack of offense is frustrating” so many times before it is completely devoid of meaning.
Maybe if Jon Berti hadn’t been called out on a close play at second trying to steal in the 9th, and instead would’ve scored on Nico Hoerner’s subsequent hit, this conversation looks different. But he didn’t, so it doesn’t. I just feel nauseated.
Shōta Imanaga had some really nasty stuff working tonight, but he got burned by the one and only Pedro Pages. A late hit that just got by an outstretched Nico Hoerner gave the Cardinals their third (and winning) run. Really good performance from Imanaga, though.
Matt Shaw was at the plate when the game ended, but since he drove in the Cubs’ only two runs of the game, he’s still the Ankin Law “Making It Personal” Player of the Game. If you’re picking an offensive player, it’s basically been him since the All-Star break. And often only him.
