Sheriff’s officials were conducting an investigation after human remains were discovered in a manure pit at a farm near Madison, Wisconsin, NBC affiliate WMTV reported.
Deputies with the Dane County Sheriff’s Office were called to the 2100 block of State Highway 19 in Sun Prairie at around 6:45 a.m., authorities said. Sun Prairie is approximately 17 miles northeast of downtown Madison.
Sheriff’s officials initially told WMTV they were dispatched to “a suspicious circumstance in a manure pit.” As of Saturday, the remains hadn’t been identified.
The Dane County Medical Examiner’s Office was also investigating.
