Amazon is raising the curtain on its state-of-the-art robots with free tours of a giant fulfillment center in Otay Mesa.
The company announced this week that the tours will be available at the center on 6971 Otay Mesa Road.
“We are thrilled to bring Amazon Tours to more customers around the world,” said Nick Boone-Lutz, who leads the public tours program at Amazon.
“These tours offer a unique opportunity to see our cutting-edge robotics and AI in action, and meet the incredible people who make it all possible,” he said.
The tours for visitors aged six and up are available Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday at 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.
During the guided tours, visitors will see three types of robotic systems in action:
Mobile drive units that navigate the warehouse floor, transporting shelves of products directly to employees at ergonomic workstations, reducing the need for workers to walk long distances and enhancing efficiency. Robotic arms that handle repetitive tasks such as picking, stowing and sorting items. These robots work alongside employees to streamline operations and improve safety. Automated guided vehicles that transport packages across the fulfillment center, ensuring timely movement of goods and reducing manual handling.Amazon said the robots that visitors will see are part of a broader strategy to enhance workplace safety, improve operational efficiency, and support employees by automating repetitive tasks.
