I broke my streak of walking at least three miles on Friday because I’m not in a good headspace right now. Maybe getting out early in the day will help my mood. But first, a set of BN Bears Bullets.
We are LESS THAN ONE MONTH AWAY from the Chicago Bears kicking off their regular-season schedule with a Monday Night Football matchup against the Minnesota Vikings. But if you can’t wait thaaaaat long, there *IS* a preseason game tomorrow. Hopefully, that will quench your thirst for football. On the one hand, starting quarterback Caleb Williams will *NOT* play in the preseason opener against the Miami Dolphins. But on the other hand, Tyson Bagent — everybody’s favorite QB2 — will play on Sunday. And if things go according to plan, it sounds like he will play a lot, too. Based on what Bears Head Coach Ben Johnson said on Friday, things are lining up for Bagent to play the whole first half. From there, Case Keenum and Austin Reed will split the remaining reps. Bagent has provided some fun preseason highlights the last two summers. He will get an opportunity to add to that sizzle reel tomorrow. If playing quarterback in the NFL isn’t in his long-term future, Tyson Bagent probably has a career in sports media as an analyst. His re-telling of this story with former Bears OC Luke Getsy makes something that is very insider-ish easy to digest. And there simply aren’t enough people in sports media who can do that:EXCLUSIVE: Tyson Bagent on Navigating Luke Getsy’s Complicated Playcalling FULL INTERVIEW: t.co/o0vu084816@waddleandsilvy x @twaddle87#TysonBagent #LukeGetsy #ChicagoBears #BearsOffense #NFLPlaycalling #BearsCamp2025 #WaddleAndSilvy #BearDown #BearsNation… pic.twitter.com/Xzu8dP06pA
Frustration seemed to catch up to a few Dolphins players as a fight broke out amongst teammates on Miami’s sideline. However, the biggest scuffle of the day came during the full team scrimmage, when Byard got into it with a Miami player. Stevenson quickly jumped in and threw a few punches at Miami’s Aaron Brewer and Elijah Campbell while both Johnson and Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel came on the field to break it up. Stevenson was removed for one play before returning to the scrimmage.
More from Kevin Byard III (via the Trib’s Dan Wiederer) on how intense practices earlier in the week spilled over into Friday’s session: “I feel like we just came out with the right intensity,” Byard said. “We kind of just talked about it (Thursday) night on our meetings being able to go out there and set the tone. I always believe that defense obviously, everything is set from the front. So, obviously boys like Grady (Jarrett), Dex (Gervon Dexter), Tez (Montez Sweat), Dayo (Odeyingbo), they’re going to set the tone.” Detroit Lions safety Morice Norris says he is “all good” after suffering a scary injury that put an early end to the team’s Friday night preseason game against the Atlanta Falcons. (Pro Football Talk) ESPN reports that Green Bay Packers safety Xavier McKinney could miss the rest of camp and each of the team’s three preseason games with a calf injury. McKinney was a star defender for the Packers last year, earning first-team All-Pro honors in his first year with the team. Given his importance to Green Bay’s defense, I can understand why the team would be willing to slow-play his return.HAPPY SATURDAY FROM BLEACHER NATION: Go Ad-Free | Subscribe to the BN Newsletter
