Country starLauren Alaina, 30, is opening up about the emotional and frightening experience of giving birth to her daughter, Beni Doll Arnold—less than a year after the death of her father. Alaina, who first captured hearts with her powerful performance of Elton John’sCandle in the Wind on American Idol, gave birth to Beni in June 2025. Her father, J.J. Suddeth, had died unexpectedly less than a year earlier.
The singer revealed that Beni was born under difficult circumstances, with the umbilical cord wrapped around her neck and legs. This created a dangerous situation in which pushing could have dropped the baby’s heart rate to critical levels.
"Every time I pushed, her heart rate plummeted," Alaina explained. "It kind of became like an emergency scenario where we had to get her out. It was a very scary time. When they handed her to me—oh man, it makes me wanna cry thinking about it. When she made that first [imitates crying noise]... wow. I looked over at my husband and he was hysterically sobbing, and he's not a crier."
