A Chapel Hill steakhouse damaged by the significant flooding from Tropical Depression Chantal is preparing to welcome patrons back next week.
Stoney River Steakhouse & Grill at University Place mall shared it will be reopening for business on Monday, August 11 after being closed since the historic storm on July 6. The self-described upscale restaurant is known for its gourmet menu and spin on Southern classics, and is open from 11:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday-Thursday, 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday-Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Sunday.
In addition to Stoney River, some of the other University Place businesses that suffered water damage from the flash flooding are also open again. The Planet Fitness location on the northern side of the main mall building, as well as the First Horizon Bank close to South Estes Drive, reopened in mid-July. Style Brows Threading Studio, which was an interior business next to Silverspot Cinema, also reopened on July 14— but at a temporary location inside Sola Salon Studios at Rams Plaza. As of Friday, Silverspot, WakeMed 365, Gerrie & Co. and Chase Bank remain closed for repairs.
The other hard-hit Chapel Hill mall from Chantal’s floods was Eastgate Crossing off of East Franklin Street. One of its tenants, Olmaz Jewelers, has set up shop near University Place as Eastgate’s restoration efforts continue. Olmaz opened a temporary location on Monday in a business unit of the 900 Willow building, next to Palette & Parlor and facing Willow Drive. The business hours will remain the same as they were before: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays.
One of the mall’s newer tenants is also now welcoming customers. Solidcore, a Pilates workout studio, started its soft opening on July 22 and is ramping up its class options. The growing fitness chain is in one of the new business spaces on the east end of the central mall building, which was constructed in University Place’s latest phase of redevelopment.
